Volunteering at MD Anderson

At MD Anderson, we are looking for talented individuals eager to use their professional skills to assist the institution in furthering its mission to end cancer.

Are you ready to join the team? Will you be here when we cure cancer?

(this is a required field)

Each agency or organization has a unique set of skills and time commitments required of their volunteers. The following is a list of questions to help you decide if MD Anderson Cancer Center is the best place for you. Discuss your decision with the important people in your life. Remember that volunteering is a commitment. It is important to find the right place to make that commitment.

College volunteers will complete 36 hours of service within a three-month period. Volunteering will follow a semester-based schedule.

The volunteer placement process includes several steps and trips to the hospital before you can begin volunteering. These trips involve attending volunteer orientations, interviews and training (this may total as many as four trips to the hospital).

1.  Are you willing to make these trips required to complete the volunteer placement process?

MD Anderson's volunteer program is very structured. The volunteer commitment is a weekly, four-hour shift for a day position; weekly, two-hour shift for an evening position and a biweekly, four-hour shift for a weekend position.

2.  Do you have time in your life for this regular commitment?

MD Anderson volunteers wear a volunteer uniform and ID badge during their volunteer shift.

3.  Are you willing to wear the volunteer uniform and ID badge during your volunteer shift?

Typically, volunteers who have been and continue to be successful MD Anderson volunteers possess certain skills/characteristics.

4.  Do you consider yourself good at: time management, teamwork, communication and taking initiative?

If you answered "yes" to all of these questions, we encourage you to complete the remainder of the Adult Volunteer Application Form. You will be contacted by a staff member in the Department of Volunteer Services and Merchandising if there is an opening that matches your interests, skill, and availability.
